Joseph A. Nicholas, President and CEO of CTSI, is a veteran of managing technology companies concentrating in the healthcare, digital imaging, travel and leisure and retail markets.
Mr. Nicholas is a graduate of Indiana University where he received the prestigious Eastman Kodak Scholarship Award. He began his career at Eastman Kodak and held a number of prominent positions including National Account Director, Brand Manager, Product Development Manager and Regional Director of Sales.
During the mid nineties, Mr. Nicholas was recruited to assist in starting a technology venture, Allin Interactive. As president of Allin Interactive he was integral in the process for raising public money in the successful pursuit of an IPO with the parent company, Allin.
Mr. Nicholas transitioned from Allin to Marconi plc as Vice President where he was responsible for developing integrated solutions for the hospital market. The concept of shared PACS was engineered to centralize data and reduce costs for healthcare facilities.
Joe Nicholas was named as CEO/President of a UPMC venture company, D3 Radiation Planning in October of 2001. UPMC is a multi billion dollar entity, non-profit provider of services in Western Pennsylvania. D3 Radiation Planning is a radiation oncology service company that offers advanced radiation treatment planning to hospitals and freestanding institutions. Hospitals and freestanding institutions utilize D3 to provide patients with advanced radiation therapy such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT). D3 combines centralized IMRT treatment planning with in-depth training for IMRT and IGRT treatment delivery, verification, and quality assurance protocols to facilitate the transition into high quality IMRT without the need for additional staff. D3 has performed tens of thousands of treatment plans for over 60 customers worldwide. This highly profitable company developed one of the key centralized processes that has allowed community hospitals and private radiation practices to deploy leading edge technologies in their marketplaces.
In early 2005 Mr. Nicholas was asked by UPMC and Alliance Imaging to become CEO of Alliance Oncology, a joint venture between D3, UPMC and Alliance Imaging. Mr. Nicholas led this company and Alliance Oncology opened two new cancer centers in California in partnership with Providence Hospital of Southern California. Mr. Nicholas was also responsible for negotiating partnerships with two world renowned organizations in Boston, Massachusetts.
Mr. Nicholas resigned his position in Alliance Oncology in early 2006 to lead the efforts of CTSI.
