Stanley M. Marks, M.D. founded Oncology Hematology Association (OHA) in 1978.  Under his leadership, OHA has grown to become one of the largest hematology-oncology practices in Pennsylvania with 30 physicians practicing in 21 locations.  OHA sees more than 10,000 new cancer patients a year.

With the merger of OHA and the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI), Dr. Marks assumed the title of Director for Clinical Services of UPMC Cancer Centers. In addition, he is Chief, Division of Hematology/Oncology, UPMC Shadyside Hospital and clinical professor of medicine for the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, as well as Medical Director of Forbes Hospice.

Dr. Marks was educated at the University of Pittsburgh, receiving his bachelor’s degree in biology in 1969, followed by a medical degree in 1973.  Following an internship and residency at UPMC Presbyterian, he served a hematology-oncology fellowship at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and Harvard Medical School, as well as the Dana Farber Cancer Center.

Dr. Marks has served as President of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and President of the Allegheny County Medical Society.  In addition, he has served on the board of directors of the American Cancer Society, Allegheny County Medical Society, Pittsburgh Research Institute, UPMC Cancer Centers, Pittsburgh Pain Society, Burger King Cancer Caring Center, and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  Dr. Marks is also on the Corporate Board of Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield, serves on the Credential Committee of Highmark, and as a Professional Consultant in Hematology/Oncology for Medicare.  He is also a founder of the local Juvenile Diabetes Foundation chapter.

Dr. Marks has authored numerous publications and is the recipient of several awards, including the National Research Service Award from the United States Public Health Service, Golden Apple for Excellence in Teaching, Pittsburgh Business Times Health Care Hero Award, and for the past several years has been named on the list of “Best Doctors in America”.

Over the past two decades, Dr. Marks has established strong professional, personal and social relationships within the community.  He is truly beloved by his patients and is consistently named one of the Pittsburgh’s “Top Doctors” by the Pittsburgh Business Times, Pittsburgh Magazine and recently Channel 11 (WPXI).  He has profoundly affected the lives of thousands of patients and their families as they find themselves coping with Cancer.  He remains passionately committed to advancing the level of cancer care in our community.
