Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)
Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) is the delivery of a highly localized dose of radiation in a single treatment. This treatment is typically delivered to patients with smaller tumors that are located in critical regions, such as the brain, where it is important that the dose be as precise as possible. In the past, SRS was exclusive to select treatment centers and hospitals that had special radiation equipment such as the Gamma Knife® or Cyberknife® that were solely dedicated to delivering stereotactic treatments. The new Trilogy system has the capability to perform SRS as well as daily radiation treatments such as IGRT or IMRT. SRS is commonly used for the treatment of:
- Brain metastases
- Other Brain tumors (i.e. acoustic neuromas, meningiomas)
- Spine metastases
- Previously treated areas
